An exciting opportunity has arisen for anIntermediate Structural Engineer to join our Tucson office to work on theRosemont project, which is a large copper development project, located in Pima County, Arizona,approximately 30 miles southeast of Tucson.
Ausenco hasbeen working with Hudbay Minerals on the Rosemont Project since 2015; throughvalue engineering and detailed feasibility study phases, proceeding to fullEPCM development of the processing facilities, site infrastructure and tailingsfacilities. Project duration is expected to last from Q2 2019 to Q2 2022.
Rosemontwill be the third-largest copper mine in the United States, accounting for 10%of domestic annual copper production, and has an expected 19-year mine life.The Project has recently completed a 10-year permitting process and will be oneof the most environmentally sensitive and advanced operations ever permitted inthe United States, including the largest dry stack tailings facility of itskind in the world. The processing plant will produce copper and molybdenumconcentrates by a process that includes; crushing, grinding, flotation,concentrate handling, and filtration and dry-stacking of the tailing s residue.
Prepare cost effective structural engineering designs from conceptual design to detail design, tender and construction in accordance with US and Canadian Codes and Standards.
Perform analysis and design of steel structures and concrete foundations for industrial and mining projects.
Prepare material take-off of steel and concrete.
Assist Senior Structural Engineers in preparing specifications, design criteria and scope of work documents.
Complete tasks under minimal supervision ensuring that objectives of cost, quality and time are met.
Supervise the work of designers the project team.
Work directly with drafting staff in order to produce detailed drawing packages.
Liaise with client representatives and general contractors directly.
Perform site visits and inspect existing structures. Perform evaluation and analysis of existing structures for modifications and additions, and propose reinforcement solutions.
Bachelor s degree in Civil or Structural engineering from a recognized University. (Master s degree would be considered an asset).
+7 years experience in structural design engineering with minimum 4 years experience in engineering design of mining and process plant projects.
Thorough understanding of the design of various building structures and systems for mining and industrial projects.
Registration as a Professional Engineer (P. E.) within the State of Arizona.
Proficiency in design of steel structures, reinforced concrete structures, and various types of heavy concrete foundations for buildings and equipment.
Proficiency in application of US Codes and Standards. (Proficiency in Canadian and International Codes and Standards is an asset)
Demonstrated experience in design of mining facilities, with a proven ability to work with a team to conceptualize project layouts, and optimize designs is a must.
Familiarity with structural dynamics, earthquake engineering and FEA modelling, is considered a strong asset.
Proficiency in structural engineering design software SAP2000, STAAD.Pro, MathCAD and Microsoft Office products. Experience with AutoCAD, NavisWorks and Smart Plant would be considered an asset.
Experienced in dealing with clients and contractors directly.
Ability to work independently, as part of a team, and as part of a multidisciplinary group.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
