The Assistant Supervisor works within the Agency s team model, establishing open communication, support and accountability among co-workers. S/he assists the Residential Manager in providing support, training, and supervision to staff who work together as a team to assist developmentally disabled adults to live and grow as independently as possible in their communities. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS I.CLIENT SERVICES necessary to meet overall agency goals and provide services to program clients. - Participates in the development of the Individual Service Plan (ISP.)-Understands, follows/implements client ISP and documents progress-Interacts with clients in order to assess needs, provide information, discuss problems, set limits, and encourage growth and development while monitoring safety.-Sits at table (and dines) with individuals during all meals to provide socialization, model good dining manners and monitor safety -Monitors client progress-Assists client with activities of daily living e.g. personal hygiene, personal shopping, shopping for healthy foods and preparation of nutritionally balanced meals, housekeeping, laundry, banking, etc.-Monitors client health, physician orders, and medication dispensing during his/her shift-Transports client in matters related to service delivery, e.g. medical appointments, shopping, job interviews, banking, recreation, friendships-Administers medication per MAP regulations-Takes and documents blood sugars and vital signs as ordered by physicians: temperature, blood pressure, etc.-Follows all medical protocols including physician ordered diets-Observes, documents and reports all observations and changes in an individual s health-Assists client with banking and money management-Provides, promotes, and participates in clients exercise programs and recreational activities, e.g. going to the gym, walking, dining out, spectator sports, movies, vacations, concerts, etc.-Provides crisis intervention-Notifies supervisory staff immediately in the event of a significant medical concern, client crisis, suspected illegal activity, or any behavior constituting an incident in the program-Maintains communication with Residential Supervisor, Program Manager, and DDS during his/her shift II.PROGRAM AND STAFF DEVELOPMENT SERVICES necessary to meet overall agency goals and provide support to management and program staff. -Adheres to program procedure manual-Assists with orientation of new employees as agreed upon with supervisor -Supervises full or part-time staff working during their shift to ensure appropriate service delivery-Assists staff with time management-Assists with coverage of shifts in event that the assigned staff is unable to work-Is on-call in the absence of the Residential Supervisor to ensure staff coverage-Participates in team approach, sharing responsibility for implementing ISP s and working toward client growth and development -Helps develop accountability system for staff and clients and follows same-Prepares required documents for medical appointments, provides transportation, and shares relevant information with program manager and nurse.-Orders and picks up client medications on time; verifies medication sheets III.COLLATERAL/ENVIRONMENTAL SERVICES necessary to respond to external environment, which influences program or department. -Works within processes and procedures of referral source (DDS)-Liaisons with other service-providing agencies (work or day programs)-Strengthens working relationships with significant resources in client network (family and guardians) IV.ADMINISTRATIVE RESPONSIBILITIES/RECORD KEEPING necessary to meet administrative requirements of the job per DMR, agency policy, -Maintains client records in accordance with standard format and timetables to include ISP development, assessments and progress reports, incident reports, and other specialized documentation as required-Assists with maintaining timetables including time sheets, mileage logs, schedules, evaluations-Assumes responsibility for assisting with accurate management of both personal and program funds per the program Funds Management Policy, i.e. records transactions, obtains and files receipts, etc.-Attends monthly weekly staff meetings; conducts same in absence of manager-Attends bi-monthly/monthly manager meetings in absence of manager-Attends clinical meetings as needed-Attends weekly supervisory meeting with Residential Supervisor-Conducts weekly house meetings with the supervisor-Attends client ISP meetings, when asked V.PROFESSIONAL GROWTH AND DEVELOPMENT necessary to develop to full potential professionally. -Seeks and uses supervisory staff for training and supervision-Attends Agency-required training-Participates in relevant Agency and/or program committees-Engages in self-evaluation to develop professional goals-Participates in additional training to develop knowledge-base for working with particular clients VI.Able to react to change productively and to handle other tasks assigned due to changing environments. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED -Knowledge of client s behavioral dynamics-Knowledge related to growth of client population-Ability to motivate, direct and supervise individuals and staff-Demonstrates effective leadership-Ability to respond effectively to crisis-Ability to structure and organize job responsibilities independently-Good writing and verbal skills-Physical and mental demands are located at end of job description-Ability to attain DPH Medication certification-Ability to attend and pass all required DDS trainings SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITYS/he provides support, training, and supervision for 1-3 staff working during same shift WORKING CONDITIONS Work is generally performed in a residential setting. Hours of work are as needed to complement the schedule of Residential Supervisor. Travel is necessary to transport clients living in their own homes or to attend various meetings. Description MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS-2 years experience working with developmentally disabled adults -Direct care staff supervisory experience-Bachelor s degree in a human service field from an accredited educational institution preferred-Have car in good working order with current registration and inspection -Have a valid driver s license with good driving record Requirements
