Job Summary: The Ambulatory Coding Specialist, under the supervision of Director of HIM performs/supervises services in a designated area according to the policies, procedures, philosophy, and objectives of the department and hospital.# Works cooperatively within department and other services to create a system of quality health care. Maintain current knowledge in areas assigning ICD-10-CM and CPT codes to ambulatory surgical and hospital clinic records according to coding guidelines, Medicare and other third party rules.# Abstracts the coded information into the Hospital Information System. A.#Accurately assigns ICD-10-CM diagnosis and procedure codes to Clinic, Surgical Day Care/Minor Surgery, and Emergency Department visits. # B.#Accurately assigns CPT-4 procedure codes to applicable visits. # C.#Codes, abstracts and completes for billing, accounts within the goals set by the Department. # D.#Meets with coding trainer on a regular basis to ensure progress and clarify problem issues. # E.#Always utilizes the 3M coding system for coding clarification (if necessary), APC assignment (Medicare), and reference as needed. # F.#Maintains an acceptable accuracy and productivity rate, as set for trainee position, for all coded and abstracted data based on internal and external quality improvement audits. # G. Continually updates knowledge of all coding and reimbursement guidelines and regulations, via both internal and external sources, to maintain (or upgrade) AHIMA certification level; including, but not limited to, Official ICD-10-CM Guidelines for Coding and Reporting, AHA Coding Clinics and CPT Assistant and insurance specific requirements. # H. Participates in coding audits and external or internal coding reviews.# Utilizes findings to improve and update coding skills. # I. Informs Supervisor of unusual/ problem accounts in a timely manner. J. Performs administrated duties as instructed and any other related duties as assigned.#
