Position Summary NYU Law is committed to building and sustaining a fully inclusive and maximally diverse educational community. NYU Law s Strategic Plan prioritizes making meaningful progress on these issues; student and alumni leaders have emphasized the importance of doing so with urgency and resolve. In furtherance of these goals, NYU Law is pleased to announce the creation of a new Assistant Dean for Diversity and Inclusion position. The Assistant Dean for Diversity and Inclusion will report directly to the Dean and will be responsible for shaping and advancing diversity and inclusion initiatives in support of the School of Law s values, goals, and priorities. The Law School s Strategic Plan, which reflects the priorities of the NYU Law community, identifies diversity and inclusion as an essential focus of our leadership efforts. Top-level goals include developing a more diverse, inclusive, and equitable legal community; increasing the diversity of the student body, faculty, and administration, as well as ensuring the inclusiveness of the Law School community; establishing NYU Law as a center of thought leadership in this area; providing training on issues of implicit bias and exploring pedagogical methods to better support the learning of all students; and leadership in improving diversity and inclusion beyond the legal academy. The Assistant Dean for Diversity and Inclusion will serve as a knowledgeable consultant, thoughtful advisor, advocate, catalyst for change, and institutional resource for improving diversity, inclusion, and belonging at the School and tracking the school s progress toward these goals. The Assistant Dean for Diversity and Inclusion will help create a more vibrant and supportive campus climate for underrepresented students and a more inclusive student experience; will collaborate with faculty to expand and deepen discussions about diversity, inclusion, bias, and related issues in the classroom and curriculum; will support faculty and staff from groups that are underrepresented; will collaborate with the Dean of Students and Office of Student Affairs on work with student affinity groups and students who are from underrepresented groups or who are especially committed to diversity and inclusion. We are looking for an enthusiastic and talented administrator with excellent interpersonal and public communication skills and the ability to be a collaborator and a convener to work directly with, and on behalf of, students, faculty, administrators, staff, and alumni to advance values of equity, diversity, and inclusion. The successful candidate will have 7 or more years of successful experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience, in creating, implementing, and overseeing institutional diversity programs within an academic environment or other relevant experience addressing issues of diversity and education equity.
